Taliban Retaking Afghanistan

What many have feared is becoming a reality in Afghanistan. The United States came to Afghanistan like a tornado and swept the Taliban out of power and quickly installed a pro-American government with relative ease. Then like all tornados, they disappeared just as quickly as they came.

For the last several years the United States has been in Iraq and basically dropped the ball in Afghanistan. The Taliban leaders were never caught and neither was Osama Bin Laden. With the United States leaving just a handful of American soldiers in Afghanistan, it has been relatively easy for the Taliban to regroup and gain strength. It has also allowed Bin Laden to life a life of relative ease without any serious risk of being captured by Americans.

U.S. Lt. General Eikenberry, commander of the Combined Forces Command-Afghanistan, acknowledged that the number of Taliban fighters may have increased over the past several months." This is in line with several other credible reports that state that the Taliban is making a comeback.

This is a prime example of what can happen when a military mission of this nature is not properly and completely executed. The multi-year invasion of Iraq is definitely a distraction from the mission in Afghanistan to capture Osama Bin Laden and Mullah Mohammad Omar.
