CIA Director Porter Goss Resigns! Why?

CIA director Porter Goss suddenly resigned his post last week. The only thing he has said about why is, "just one of those mysteries." Why would he not tell?

It is no secret that the Central Intelligence Agency has been going through rough times since September 11, 2001. The fact that 9/11 happened is being blamed on their inability to learn of the plot and prevent it. The CIA is also being blamed for the Iraq war mess. The Bush Administration has blamed faulty intelligence for there being no WMD in Iraq. The CIA does have some responsibility but they are being used as scapegoats.

There were reports before we invaded Iraq that there were no WMD in Iraq. For whatever reason, the Bush administration took the worst case scenario and ran with it. Why the CIA is blamed for this is anyone's guess.

One of the reasons Goss resigned is because the CIA's role in government affairs is being reduced. Secretary of Defense, Donald Rumsfeld, has started his own intelligence agency in the military so that they will rely less on the CIA. This will allow the military to be more self-sufficient and allow the military to operate more independent of the United States government.

There has also been a lot of turmoil within the CIA because of changes made by Goss. Some have even questioned his ability to run the CIA. Normally this might be just upset employees talking, but after the Katrina disaster one might wonder. After all Goss was another Bush appointee, just like FEMA Director Michael Brown was.
