Republicans Remember When.........
Do you remember when Republicans stood for something? They have come a long way since I first remember them back in the 1980's. I just do not know if it is a good or a bad thing.
Remember when Republicans preached about having a small Federal Government and letting the states govern themselves. Fast forward to today. We now are seeing some of the fastest expansion of the Federal Government ever. I guess they now feel that Big Government is the way to go.
Remember when Republicans used to promote tax cuts as a way to keep the Federal Government small? Now they support borrowing money from communist countries to give people and businesses tax cuts. This borrowed money will have to be repaid eventually and only a government as large as it is now or larger will be able to accomplish this feat.
Remember when Republicans wanted to "Leave No Child Behind?" How about supporting a strong military? Surely you remember that Republicans are the best at "Homeland Security." As a result of Bush's tax cuts a few years ago, there isn't the money to accomplish these goals. Did you know that the Federal Government now is spending more on interest payments on the National Debt than on Education, Veteran Benefits and Homeland Security?
Weren't Republicans fiscally conservative? Just a couple years ago President Bush was pushing to get people off Welfare. Personally I thought this was a good idea until I realized where the extra money we save goes. We now owe communist China billions if not trillions of dollars. Here is the National Debt as of today April 25, 2006. $8,360,725,321,986.71 American dollars. In case you are wondering, we probably could have bought Iraq and Afghanistan for that price.
It is clear that the Republican party has changed its values in the last 10 or so years. However, they still are sticking to the religious issues like abortion and no sex before marriage. While I commend their dedication to these issues, sometimes abortions are necessary(such as rape cases) and no sex until marriage seems to be a losing battle in America.
How much the Republican Party changes will remain to be seen, but they are clearly changing course daily. I guess we will see at the polls whether their changes pay off or not.
