More Katrina Lies and FEMA Abuse
Acting FEMA Director R. David Paulson promised last year that they would rebid four massive contracts that were given to friends of the Bush administration. FEMA has since failed to rebid a single one of these contracts and boldly announced that they will instead extend the contracts for even more work. FEMA announced that they were being extended because of their good performance.
The good performance on three of these contracts has been witnessed by the Government Accounting Office. The GAO reviewed these contracts and say that they are wasting millions of dollars. This, I guess, is a good thing. You have to spend tax dollars somehow. Fema is also being criticized for not issuing contracts promised to small businesses and minority owned businesses. They blame the large number of applications as the reason for the delay.
FEMA recently also announced that they are preparing for the next hurricane season by getting ready to issue large contracts to more huge corporations. They plan on letting these large corporations dole out smaller jobs to small companies. This way the large companies get more money right off the top for jobs they would not be doing. This is how the Bush administration gives business to large corporations. This is instead of issuing smaller contracts that would allow small businesses to compete and save tax dollars. We are basically hiring a middle man to do FEMA's job and they are being paid with your tax dollars.
