Security, Who's Better Democrats or Republicans?
We can argue this for the next million years if you'd like. There will be no clear winner because everyone is arguing their opinions. Well, today I am changing my opinion and I hope you can agree with me on this.
Many will say that Bush was re-elected because people thought he was tougher on terrorism and our country would be safer with him as our president. This is what the major polls said anyways. I am not here to discuss this though. What I am talking about is action. I think, you think, we all think, but this means nothing if there aren't actions making it true. On November 11, 2001, our views about national security changed. We have done a complete 180 on security, or have we. It seems that this is actually closer to a 360 degree turn as opposed to a 180 degree turn.
The Dubai Ports World deal showed us that our ports are not safe enough. We all know that little if anything has been done to stop terrorists from being able to just walking across our borders. Now news is coming out regarding two tests that were to see if someone could get past our border patrols with radioactive material. They were actually government employees passing through as a test to ensure that the security measures put into place since 9/11 are working. They failed in both cases. The potential terrorists were allowed to enter our country with their potential "dirty bomb" components. Shouldn't we be safer today than we were on 9/10/2001. Why is this work not done? It is 2006, isn't it?
I do not care if you are a Republican, Democrat or Independent, these issues should be sending warning signals to you. Have we forgotten 9/11? Have we fooled ourselves into thinking there are no longer enemies that would love to destroy our country? An even worse thought: Have our leaders become so wrapped up in scandals and the mess in Iraq that they can no longer fully comprehend and address these issues? I hate to bring this up but Osama Bin Laden is still out there and I bet he's not just sitting around having a cup of tea.
