Congratulations! You Used Your First Veto

George W. Bush today issued his first veto since he has been in the White House. At first glance you might think that his decision was to preserve life. If you listened to his speech, you might have even thought that you were convinced that this was his motive. In all reality, this couldn't be further from the truth.

George W. Bush has no respect for human life. This was evident when he said that even though the reasons for going into Iraq were all proven to be false, he would still invade Iraq even if he knew then what he now knows. This is even after about 40,000 innocent Iraqi citizens have died because of our invasion.

The embryo's that this veto will save would never have been born in the first place. We are talking about fertility clinic leftovers that will be destroyed anyways. Bush's veto will never save a single human life. All it will do is prevent potential treatments and cures for horrible diseases that devastate millions of families every day. At best this will help ensure that these embryos, that he says are being killed, are in fact killed with no possible good coming from them.

This truth is a far cry from the goals that Bush says he is working towards. Bush has clearly gone against the American people on this issue. I guess this is not a government by the people, for the people after all.

Bush will never achieve his supposed goals when it comes to stem cell research. All he will achieve is allowing other countries to move leaps and bounds ahead of us in medical treatments and cures. This will leave the United States having to buy medicines from other countries and further increase our reliance on other countries.
