Reservations About Iraq Increase

Americans are not being given a straight story on Iraq. The Bush Administration has changed the reason why we are in Iraq so many times now, I cannot even remember if Saddam was supposed to welcome the U.S. forces with open arms, or what was said. It is time for the White House to be held accountable. We need real answers to some tough questions.

The latest news is that Saddam had accepted asylum in another country before we attacked. U.S. State Department officials told CNN they knew about the proposal. Maybe if we had waited a couple of weeks, he would have stepped down and we wouldn't be looking at 2,000+ dead and 15,000+ injured soldiers. If we had waited a little bit longer there might not have been a war and maybe we would never have had to deal with this "Libby-Plame" issue. We would also have a couple hundred billion dollars in our pockets.

The Iraq gov't. supposedly has 205,000 troops trained. My question is what do they consider trained? We cannot afford to leave Iraq in the state it is in, but we need to win this darned thing before it is too late. We cannot leave right now if we wanted to anyways. We invaded their country and removed their government, military and law enforcement. We are morally and financially obligated at this point to restore what we destroyed. It is part of how this action works.

Recently, Gen. George Casey, top U.S. commander in Iraq, raised eyebrows in Congress when he said only one Iraqi army battalion was ready to go into combat without U.S. support, this number is actually down from three battalions a few months ago.

Iraqi President: We're Frustrated With Coalition Forces. Iraqi President Jalal Talabani said the American military commanders with whom he has spoken agree to give Iraqi forces a larger role in defending their country, but do not follow up with action. "We ask them for things to change, they agree, and then nothing happens."

A recent U.S. military report issued by the Pentagon estimates that nearly 26,000 Iraqis were killed or wounded by insurgent attacks from January 1, 2004, through September 16, 2005. This does not help our cause. These 26,000 dead have families that cannot be very happy with us right now. This just undermines our ability to get to an exit stragety.

I heard the other day that the U.S. Gov't. praised four elections in Vietnam as successes before we went on to lose that war. All we are asking is when will this mess be over? We are being told different answers every time the issue comes up. There are entirely too many Iraq "flip-flops" going on. We have our own problems in this country that need to be addressed.

It is time for this government to stand up and go to work. I propose that Bush get together with the military and Congress(all of them) and have a top secret meeting. Disclose how we will win this war and when we will bring our troops home. Keep it confidential and if it is disclosed put them in jail. If all the senators realize that there is a definite plan then we can get it done. Even Republican Senators are criticizing the war right now. We need to all be on the same page on this so we can bring our troops home. During his campaign, Bush promised to reach across the party lines and encourage Democrats and Republicans to work together to pass legislation.
