Iran Will Be Allowed Nuclear Capabilities

Despite being reported to the United Nations Security Council, Iran will be allowed to continue enriching uranium for whatever nuclear ambitions they seek.

The United States has lost so much credibility and favor in the rest of the world that we no longer command the respect or the persuasive ability to get other nations to follow our lead in imposing strict enough sanctioning upon Iran to force them to abandon their nuclear ambitions.

It is now up to the European Union and Russia to try to broker a deal with Iran that will allow Russia to supply them with plutonium needed for nuclear reactors.

The reasoning for Russia to supply the plutonium is that they would control the supply and the quality produced. Plutonium used in nuclear reactors is not as dangerous as the highly refined plutonium used in nuclear weapons. Russia would also be responsible for proper disposal of the spent (used) plutonium after it is useless in nuclear reactors.

During President Bush's campaign for re-election one of the issues raised by Democrats was the safety of nuclear material in Russia and surrounding countries formed after the break-up of the U.S.S.R. It was not contested by anyone that this nuclear material was nowhere near as secure as it should be and could be acquired fairly easily by terrorists. This threat still exists and having Russia control Iran's plutonium will help diffuse the Iran crisis but will do nothing to secure fairly readily available supplies of radioactive materials in the region. If anything, it puts more plutonium in a part of the world that Democrats and Republicans already agree there should be less.

America is quickly becoming the most hated country in the world. Is this supposed to make us safer? All we have done since 9/11 is to paint a bigger bulls-eye on ourselves. God Bless America.....and please help us to see the error of our ways before it is too late.
