U.S. Military "Out of Control"

What is going on with our military? Are we pushing them too far? Are they out of control?

Five U.S. Marines have bee arrested in the Philippines for accusations that they raped a local woman there. Two soldiers are charged with assault for punching two detainees in the chest, shoulders and stomach while they were held at a military base in Afghanistan. US soldiers also in Afghanistan burnt the bodies of dead Taliban and then they taunted their opponents about the corpses, in an act deeply offensive to Muslims and in breach of the Geneva conventions. This was done as cameras rolled recording the incident.

The Army has sent 478 soldiers home from Iraq for mental-health issues. The Army doesn't have enough mental-health resources in Iraq to treat many of the cases. Almost fifty U.S. military personnel have committed suicide in Iraq since the war began and at least thirty have comitted suicide after returning from combat.

These issues are not even taking into account the issues at Guantanamo, Abu Ghriab and other detention facilities in Iraq.

I can't help but wonder if at least some of these incidents can be attributed to the environment and conditions that we are subjecting out troops to. Could there be something missing in their training that is not preparing them for the very high stresses that they ultimately will fact while deployed? There is a serious problem at the heart of these issues.

Actions of this nature will not contribute to a successful outcome to the "War on Terror" they will actually fuel resentment from people that may not even be our enemy. These incidents are continuously aired on television and only serve to empower our enemy and create new enemies. We cannot allow this behavior, for whatever reason to continue.
