Iran: Reported to the United Nations Security Council
The U.S. government is supporting a move to report Iran to the U.N. Security Council. This should help out a lot. Is this the same U.N. that Bush showed so little respect to before invading Iraq?
All this has done is cause Iran to expel the individuals that were monitoring Irans nuclear ambitions and capabilities. Next thing you know we will be saying that we have no way of knowing what nuclear capabilities Iran has. It's less than an ideal situation to begin with but running off screaming "I'm telling on you" is not going to help matters at all.
Iran has the right to generate nuclear power. It is not fair to say we can have cheap nuclear power and you can't. We can say it's because we don't trust you, but they can say that they do not trust us. So we too should eliminate all our nuclear capability because someone does not trust us? This is not a valid reason for either side to cease nuclear ambitions.
Personally, I think we should just ignore them. As long as we stay out of their business, they will stay out of ours. When has Iran shown such hostility towards us that we feel compelled to take such drastic actions against them? I agree that Iran does not like us very much, but so what. They are not hostile towards us. They do not have a desire to cause harm towards us.
They may be a thorn in our side in Iraq, but can you blame them. We have destroyed an Arab country that happens to be their neighbor and made the entire region less stable. President Bush recently admitted that invading Iraq was a mistake. Then he said that if he had to make the decision again today, he would still invade Iraq. They probably want nuclear weapons to ensure that we do not invade them next. Can you really blame them for wanting the security that being nuclear capable gives you.
If I was in their shoes, I would want nuclear weapons too.
